This blog has been set up as part of Vermont’s 23 Things, a Vermont Department of Libraries continuing education program that will encourage all of us to learn more about emerging technologies on the web that are changing the way people, libraries, and society access information and communicate with each other. The program aims to show you and your colleagues 23 Things – new (or newish) web tools and trends that are increasingly popular in libraries and increasingly popular with our patrons. The design of this online program was completely built on Web 2.0 technologies that are freely available on the Internet. These sites include: Blogger, Flickr, Bloglines, PBWiki & YouTube.
Over the course of the next 10 or 20 weeks, this blog will highlight “23 Things” and exercises to help you become familiar with blogging, RSS news feeds, tagging, wikis, podcasting, online applications, and video and image hosting sites. We’ll post 2 to 3 units online each week for you to complete at your own pace.
The goals of Vermont’s 23 Things are wonderfully simple – you should explore, play, and have fun!
The content for this self-discovery program was borrowed and modified from the Learning 2.0 program designed by Helene Blowers, the Technology Director of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. There are several other libraries that we also drew heavily from including InfoPeople, Swineburne University, Learning 2.0 @Mac, and the Missouri River Regional Library. We’ve also borrowed instructions from the Library 2.0 in 15 Minutes a Day wiki.

I hate starting things late, but this is too good an opportunity to pass up. It’s the first chance I’ve had to “breathe” since school started, so I’m going to try to use time after school to catch up. I don’t have a clue about what I’m doing, though, so I guess I’d better just jump in.

Just what I needed! And timely, too, since I’m going to the Museum Computer Network Conference next month and need to learn as much as I can beforehand to get the full benefit of attending.
