Lesson 6 – Catch Up

July 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

As you might have noticed, Lesson 6 is not really a lesson. It’s Catch-up Time! Take some time and breathe a little. Catch-up, revisit an old 2.0 friend you didn’t have enough time with, discover a new one. Or weed a little in between rain showers, go to Maine, paddle on Lake Champlain, pick blueberries, read a book.

Come back ready for Play Week!

Lesson 5 – Social Networks

July 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Lesson 5 of Vermont’s 23 Things is all about exploring social networks, including Facebook and MySpace. Thing 11 has you setting up a Facebook or MySpace account. For those of you who would prefer not to, there is an alternate exercise. There have also been several questions about creating pseudonymous identities. If that makes you more comfortable, who are we to stand in your way? Enjoy the week!

If you’re on the more relaxed schedule, Lesson 3 of Vermont’s 23 Things is all about photos and images. You’ll explore Flickr and find some tools to spice up your blog, make posters and trading cards, and see what other exciting things you can do with photos! Click here to see the rest of the Lesson 3 post.

Lesson 4 – RSS

July 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This lesson in Vermont’s 23 Things is all about RSS. The lesson is filled with jargon and tech talk and depending on your preferred learning style, you might like watch the videos, jump in and try out an RSS reader (or two), and read about it afterwards. Looking over other 23 Things programs, this seems to be one of the harder ‘things’ to conquer. Some have also said it’s the biggest thrill. Judging from your blogs, you will take on Week 4 with curiosity and perseverance!

Credit for Vermont’s 23 Things

July 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

For all who would like credit for Vermont’s 23 Things but don’t quite know how to proceed, here’s what you might like to know:

After completing ALL of the things:

If you’re a public librarian, e-mail me (mara.siegel@mail.dol.state.vt.us) and I will add 10 technology hours to your continuing education record.

If you’re a school librarian, e-mail me (mara.siegel@mail.dol.state.vt.us) and I will send you a certificate similar to those you pick up at Materials Review sessions. There will be a place on the certificate for you to fill in the number of hours you’ve spent on the program.
